  • Foundation:

LIB, the Lebanese institution for the blind is a private charity organisation that takes care of and rehabilitates the blind. It is engaged solely in the social and humanitarian work and is not involved in any political activities.

It was founded in 1986 by a blind man, Dr Issa El - Maalouf and it was licensed by the Lebanese Government in 1987 as per the decree 146 / A.D.

  • Objective:

Integrate the blind people in the society.

  • Targets:

Taking care of the blind medically, psychologically, socially and economically and providing them with a scientific, cultural and professional education.

  • Internal organisation:

LIB staff are primarily blind, a blind receptionist welcomes you, a blind switch board operator handles the phone board and handles the task of directing LIB’s busses towards their destination.
The blind men and women teach each other. The board of directors is constituted entirely from blind people. Moreover it is worth pointing out that the institution’s accounting, finance and filing departments are all computerised.
